His work mainly consists of modern and street photography that focuses on daily life, his most popular work released in 2010, had a portfolio of intense photos that looked at people that rode the Tokyo Underground, and portrayed the problem with dense and overpopulated cities. MY New York Study on urban
ABSTRACT PHOTOSHOOT 1
Around the city centre: Looking up
I took these photos looking up, I focused on the lines and where they lead to, I also like how some photos came out as silhouettes and the dark lines against the light clouds really exaggerated the moody effect, it allowed me to show the city with a more abstract view point, and highlight the differences around the cultural area that reflected onto the diversity in the city.
My editing of looking up in the city
Pattern around the city
Looking at a certain angle will make objects and images look repeated and have a pattern inside itself. Repetition is key when finding a pattern, its helps to distinguish what the key shapes of that certain pattern is.

MY RESPONSE TO Moving city
In these photos I looked for and image that had movement and had life within, even when it was frozen. In my images I wanted to instil a feeling of calmness and have a laid back atmosphere that could outline the differences in two peoples lives, that fact that you can stumble upon another persons life and leave it within moments is fascinating, but also terrifying.

Moholy-Nagy
Moholy-Nagy was a Hungarian painter and photographer as well as a professor. His theme and technique focuses on "looking up" Sharp and defined lines with a high contrast fill the image and create many layers and interesting textures inside of the photo.

My response to looking up: Editing
The theme of looking up has helped to create an abstract shape that contrasts against the bright blue sky. I used the photo editing program Photoshop to assist me as I distorted the image to create a pattern.
The shape and repetition in these photos show a Diamond with a light to dark grade in the blue background repeated with each "Diamond" Photoshop was a really effective way to create repetition.
Focus: The sharpest areas of the photograph start from the top and soften up at the bottom. The sharpest part is also the clearest and shows the image better.
Light: In the photo there are many shadows and limited parts of light, we can tell that the light is quite natural because its not so dense and suppressed in one place it is also a soft light that shines through to create shadows.
Line: The shadows in this image act as lines that point towards the middle of the table, and create a focal point. also the roundness of the table edge draws us into the dark shadows underneath it.
Repetition: The only aspect that shows repetition is the shadows and lines that shine onto the table.
Space: The space and area in the photo looks cramped.
Texture: The different textures in the photo look smooth and soft along the table.
Value and Tone: In this photograph there are many tones and gradient colour in the whole photograph

Keld Helmer Petersen
Keld Helmer Petersen is a Danish photographer that takes industrial photographs and edits them in a way that show pure shadows, and high contrast. All the images have overlapping layers and are taken with the industrial aspects and dark features, to produce a high quality and intricate Black and White photograph, all of the elements included in these photographs inspire me, and helps me to develop my editing skills in the style of this photographer.
Using Peterson's techniques
I decided to use this photograph because of the existing contrast and the industrial
theme of the power line and steel structure. |
To get to this stage I first discarded the colour information that made the image automatically black and white. I opened the "levels" menu and proceeded to move the Input levels as to each other as possible.
|
To emphasise the theme of Black & White the "Gray Input Levels:" were put on top of each other and helped to thicken the pure white sky and the strong darkness of the structure.
My final version. I think I relates to Petersons technique because of the strong and pure colours and the industrial theme throughout the photo.
Final Piece
Creating a final piece and refining ideas:
When starting a final piece I looked at other photographers that we have studied to draw some inspiration from them and some techniques, in this exam I refined and sorted through many photographs that I believed were able to inspire me and allow me to explore many different concepts and aspects of photography, from taking one single image and using that, to taking many and editing them using Photoshop.
I was able to draw inspiration from the most recent photographer I have studied: Keld Helmer Petersen, I liked his photographic style because of the themes of black and white, crisp images and the strong lines. I was able to show some of this inspiration by manipulating the Brightness/Contrast in all of my photos.

Evaluating my final pieces:
My personal views on these pieces are that I have achieved what I intended to do, and allowed myself to explore and refine the different aspect of photography such as, angles and perspective, to colours and textures, and also the technological side, for example editing in Photoshop widened my abilities by being able to take an image and then manipulate it.
I have demonstrated the skills I have learnt whilst using Photoshop, and the steps and techniques I have adopted to reach the end product, this is an important step to show the progression of your work. I believe that this exam has been very successful and beneficial to myself and my work, it has allowed me to show my knowledge, and skills in the subject, by presenting them in power points and annotating them. In addition to this I believe that the way I worked and presented my work was efficient and effective, having a structured layout can show organisation and precise and planned-out thinking.
All my photos show clear links between each other and all share a style, I think having a personal style is important because it shows individuality and flair, and it can give a different perspective to a situation or photograph. Also having an inspiration or influence that can be shown in your work shows understanding of the artist intentions, and can demonstrate how well you can evaluate other pieces of work.
Analysing and Evaluating your work is vital because, it can help you develop your images and creations further, it also allows you to see the possible room for improvement, this can help you achive a higher grade.
